HEADS ABOVE THE PARAPET

“I have this year to campaign to reverse the imposition of the EYFS”

The new Chairman of the Independent Association of Preparatory Schools (IAPS), John Tranmer, spoke of the challenges facing Independent schools in a climate where independence is being eroded by ill-conceived Government regulations.

He stated his intention to spend his year in office protecting the Early Years curriculum from being further damaged by the current EYFS Government Directives: “I have this year to campaign to reverse the imposition of the EYFS” he told delegates at the recent IAPS conference in Jersey. “It is fundamentally wrong that the government, or more accurately a collection of pseudo-educationalists and bureaucrats, should dictate to independent schools, renowned for excellence, what they should be teaching.”

Interestingly, Libby Purves, the broadcaster, urged the delegates at the IAPS conference in Lisbon, 2006, to “put their heads above the parapet” and stand up for what they believed to be right in Education – it looks like Mr Tranmer is determined to do just that!
